Our awesome instructional coach here at Pattison has come across a great app called, Is Your Child on Track? This app is from Heinemann and is a great tool that gives parents specific reading behaviors to look for depending on age, comprehension questions and stems, fluency builders, activities and videos of how to do the activities, and even book recommendations with direct links to amazon.
“For a child, learning to read is like learning to ride a bike. He needs you to show him how. Then you support him as he tries on his own while you run alongside holding the seat. Finally, he bursts away riding solo down the street. The same is true in learning to read—he needs a model, then guidance, which builds his confidence so he tries more difficult tasks. This app will guide parents in supporting their chidren through this learning process.”— Bonnie Campbell Hill & Carrie Ekey
Are you looking for a summer activity that is both educational and exciting? For 25 years, Writers in the Schools and Rice University have partnered together to bring Creative Writing Camp to students across Houston. This popular camp helps children learn the power of words, gain practice in self-expression, and expand their creativity.
Students flourish in the supportive environment as they experience new methods of writing and develop confidence. Classes are small so students receive personal encouragement and attention from experienced teachers and professional writers.
Mark your calendar for January 29th (when registration begins) because classes fill up fast!
