This week will be the end of our unit on decimals. We will wrap up decimals by practicing strategies for comparing and ordering decimals, as well as adding and subtracting decimals. Below is the strategy we use for adding and subtracting decimals:
On Wednesday, we will begin looking at geometry. We will start this unit by reviewing relationships between lines and the classifications for angles. For lines, we will study parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines. For angles, we will study acute, right, and obtuse angles. We will also move into naming and describing two-dimensional shapes this week. Students will take a deeper look at quadrilaterals and learn the attributes that differentiate squares, rectangles, parallelograms, rhombuses, and trapezoids. As students learn to name a wide variety of shapes, please encourage them to identify these shapes in the world around them!
