In addition to the reading test coming up on Tuesday, May 19th, students will spend this week preparing for and finalizing the projects they will be sharing with parents and relatives during Friday's Parent Event. We hope to see you there!
The kids have begun working on their latest reading project- a review of their favorite book club selection thus far. On this assignments, students will not only include a review of their book, but also will synthesize their understanding of the book's theme, characters, and summary. At this point, many groups are on their second or even third book, and we have been so impressed with their reading stamina and commitment to group-made goals!
Please make note that there will be a reading test this coming Tuesday, May 19th. The below review will be sent home this week to be completed as homework.
Throughout this week students will continue to meet with groups or partners to discuss the book their group has chosen to read. We are very proud of the students' commitment to their group reading and thinking goals, and continue to be impressed by their group interactions and conversations!
In addition to reading and meeting in book clubs, we will be teaching and discussing historical fiction. On Monday we read aloud Henry's Freedom Box to help introduce historical fiction. Later on in the week, students will have the opportunity to create their own historical fiction timelines using the same time period from which Henry "Box" Brown lived during, but their imaginations to create the characters involved.
