This week in writing we are revisiting the acronym ASAP VOE to remember how great writers add description and figurative language to their pieces! We will also compare writing to ice cream. :) When you eat ice cream, you want some delicious toppings to add variety and flavor to the dish. However, if you add too many toppings you could end up with a very bad stomach ache! The same is true in writing in regards to description. We will work on adding just the right amount to our personal narratives-not too much, not too little, but just the right amount!
We are THRILLED to announce that fourth grade writers will revisit personal narrative writing during this unit! This week, we will review the writing process of narrative work and begin a new piece. We will also look at an new way to plan our writing. This plan is called a "story arc" and will help our writers stay focused on the heart, or the big moment of their stories.
This week your writer will get a chance to experience a lesson from each of the language arts teachers! We will rotate as a class to work on skills that our fourth graders are still trying to master.
We are looking forward to Friday when we will celebrate the excellent essays that our writers have been working on!
This week in writing your child will learn the acronym DANCE to help them remember all of the important components of an essay.
D-Don't Forget a Thesis and Introduction
A-At Least One or Two Reasons
N-Narrative Element (aka Mini Memory)
After Friday, encourage your child to teach the family how to "DANCE" their way through an essay!
