As we explore book clubs in reading class, our focus in writing will be learning how to write about the thoughts we have while we read. Your child will be challenged to really push his or her thinking and express those thoughts on paper. Please encourage this practice at home! Get the whole family involved and have each person share their thoughts and chat about the books they are reading!
Our primary focus this week is our STAAR Survivor activities for reading, but we are thrilled to be able to also work on our poetry a bit. Our writers have LOVED learning about and trying to create poetry. They are doing a fabulous job! They are taking risks, playing with words and syllables and revising all the time. It is so fun to watch them participate in this process!
We are so excited to launch our poetry unit! This week, our writers will learn how to generate ideas for poems. We will show them concrete ways to turn stories and essays into poetry. We will also read mentor texts and discuss writing elements that poets use.
